The 1897-O One dollar is part of a series of Morgan silver dollar coins struck from 1878-1921. Struck in New Orleans and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper from a mintage of 4,004,000 struck.
The 1897-O, much like other New Orleans Mint Morgan dollars, is common enough in the circulated grades but is scarce in uncirculated condition. This issue is not struck well, and uncirculated specimens don't usually possess very good luster. Thus, Gems are extremely rare, though a handful survive up to MS67. PLs and DMPLs are all rare, and none are known in the grade of MS65 or higher.

Obverse: Portrait of Liberty centered. On the left are found 7 stars with the words E*PLURIBUS*UNUM followed by 6 stars on the right. The date is positioned at the bottom.

Reverse: The heraldic eagle is centered holding a bunch of arrows and branch surrounded by and olive leaves. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * ONE DOLLAR frame the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears above the letters DO of DOLLAR.
