OBVERSE
The face depicts Cuban independence hero Antonio Maceo, known as “The Bronze Titan,” within an ornate engraved oval frame. Red serial numbers and the red Banco Nacional de Cuba seal are prominently displayed at left and right. Intricate lathework, guilloche patterns, and anti-counterfeiting engraving characteristic of the American Bank Note Company surround the central portrait. The denomination “20 Pesos” appears in each corner.
REVERSE
The reverse features the national coat of arms of the Republic of Cuba at center surrounded by elaborate geometric engraving and ornate ABNC security design elements. The denomination is repeated in each corner with decorative scrollwork and guilloche patterns throughout.
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
Issued during 1958, the final year before the Cuban Revolution, this note represents one of the last pre-Castro issues produced for circulation by the Banco Nacional de Cuba. The Pick 80b “Red Serials” variety is highly collectible as a transitional issue from a pivotal period in Cuban history.
