An attractive example of Iraq’s iconic Saddam Hussein military portrait issue. The obverse features President Saddam Hussein depicted in full military uniform at right, accompanied by a dramatic equestrian battle scene representing the historic Battle of al-Qadisiyyah, a powerful symbol employed by the Iraqi government during the Iran-Iraq War. Arabic inscriptions and intricate geometric security designs complete the face design.
The reverse depicts the Al-Shaheed (Martyr’s) Monument in Baghdad, one of Iraq’s most recognizable modern landmarks, alongside an ancient Mesopotamian gateway, lion motif, palm fronds, and traditional Islamic geometric ornamentation. Text appears in English as “Central Bank of Iraq” and “Twenty Five Dinars.”
This note is widely regarded as the only regularly circulating Iraqi banknote to portray Saddam Hussein in full military dress uniform, making it one of the most sought-after and historically significant issues of the Saddam era. Printed by De La Rue of England, the note incorporates a portrait watermark and embedded security thread.
An increasingly popular type among collectors of Middle Eastern currency, military-themed banknotes, Cold War memorabilia, and modern world paper money. Original paper quality, strong color, and excellent eye appeal make this an outstanding representative example of the type.
