Issued by the Banco de Tamaulipas of Tampico, this attractive 5 Pesos note represents one of the classic private bank issues of pre-Revolutionary Mexico. Printed by the American Bank Note Company of New York, the note features the iconic portrait of Guadalupe Obregón at center, surrounded by intricate lathework and ornate security engraving characteristic of ABNCo’s finest work of the early twentieth century. The reverse displays a detailed pastoral vignette with hunting dogs and a canoe scene, executed with exceptional depth and precision.

This example is from the desirable Series H emission, a later series produced during the bank’s final years of operation. The note retains strong eye appeal with attractive color, solid margins, and sharp engraving detail. The paper remains pleasing overall, with no significant folds observed, though light staining is present in the lower right corner along with minor handling consistent with long-term storage.

Private Mexican banknotes from the Banco de Tamaulipas remain highly collectible due to their artistic design, regional historical significance, and connection to Mexico’s banking era prior to the constitutional reforms that centralized note issuance. Examples from this series are increasingly sought after by specialists in Mexican paper money, Latin American banking history, and American Bank Note Company productions.
